My Mac Pro, after just two years and one month since purchase from Apple, appears to have fried its graphics card. With no prior warning, the display started to flash occasionally, then switched into a grey or black screen mode. There being no further activity the only option was to force shutdown by pressing the power button for a few seconds. Allowing the Mac to cool down for half an hour initially allowed the Mac to boot properly but then it would only stay on for a few minutes before going black/grey/multicolour screen again. Eventually the Mac failed to boot at all. Now on switching on again the hard drive makes the usual noises, fans are running, the chime sounds, and then the display shows either a black or grey screen, or a screen full of fine multicolour vertical stripes. The timescale of the failure, from occasional flashing screen to complete failure to boot took less than a day.

Macbook Pro Highest Video Card
I have checked that the display is operating correctly by connecting to a MacBook. I have tried a number of alternative start-up options such as Safe Mode, etc, but none of these makes any difference, presumably because the keyboard isn't being read.
The card is an ATI Radeon HD 5770 and currently it would seem that no new cards are available in the uk market place. The upgrade option (HD 5870) is also, currently, unavailable. Simcity serial code. My question is - is there an alternative graphics card that is compatible with the Mac Pro. I'm not into gaming so don't need to improve on the performance of the original card which I have always found to be perfectly adequate.
Hope someone can help - it's a lot of money to spend on a high-end computer that only lasts 2 years and then can't be repaired!
